News from the RHS

Events ongoing or planned for 2018

Through the RHS's association with Dunfermline Heritage Community Projects, we hope for a more positive link with Abbot House when it finally re-opens to the public.

We are delighted to be able to report that the murals which were stripped from the walls of the Presence Room in Abbot House have been saved and are in a remarkably good condition considering their poor treatment. The original artist, Virginia Colley, is currently restoring them and mounting the individual pieces on boards so that they can again be displayed. It would be wonderful to see them once again the room for which they were designed in Abbot House.

We have close links with Glasgow University's Scottish Literature department, and in this connection we hope to organise a conference in late 2018 or early 2019 at which younger scholars who are working on Henryson will give the results of their researches. A dramatisation of Seamus Heaney's translation of the Testament of Cresseid by Dr Jo George of Dundee University is planned as part of the programme.

If you would like any information on anything on this page, or would like to be involved in any way, please contact Morna Fleming using the contact page on this website.
